CAMELBACK Mountain is seated in Phoenix, Arizona, United States. The name is based upon its curvature which resembles the head and hump of a camel.
Hohokam Culture is known to have lived as cave dwellers around the 14th. century and their spiritual presence are ever present, in the flaming sky. It is considered extremely difficult to climb and is formed of granite and red sedimentary sandstone prone to crumble underfoot causing slipping and stumbling as noted from DSN personal experience. This is a view from the rear garden of the DSN residence, all set within the mountains base on Camelback rise. The panoramic drawing which inspired a frenetic energetic adventure of etching was born as a small 8.5” x 11” sheet of paper and a palm tree silhouette by a bunker hill. There was no plan to spend the entire week, dawn to dusk capturing the entire mountain in temperatures hovering above 100 degrees. Original drawing is in mixed drawing media, pen, pencil, and pigment on various papers.
The copper etching plate was specially sourced and etched in Glasgow, Scotland where DSN maintains a studio. The intensive process from start to finish was carried out by true master craftsmen, dedicated to uncompromising printmaking to high archival, museum quality.
The sharpness and burnished texture of the complex black pigment is exquisite as pressed into 300 gms. white Somerset Satin cotton paper.
